Lovely wine. Nose of crushed slate dust, lemon, lemon jelly, herbs. Palate is ripe and rich with great energy but also intense minerals and juicy, lean lemony fruit. Long finish. A richer, riper style but just as fresh and energetic.

Another good Riesling for Grandma and Nonno. This time a dry one. Fragrant green apple, citrus pith, and pungent crushed stone. Nose is changing and sweetening rapidly with air. Soft and mouthfilling. Dry but soft-textured. Has a weighty feel in the finish, and closes with a pleasantly bitter note.

May 4th, 2019Gorgeous nose. Lanolin, mineral, herbs and slate. Very perfumed and fragrant. Very lemony. Palate is sleek and rich with bone cracking acidity and dryness. Balanced and pure. Terrific texture and pit fruits on the Finish.

Apr 23rd, 2019Been waiting on this for a long long time. Gorgeous nose. Ripe and very Winningen but also herbal and crazy mineral. Yellow fruits. But on a bed of slate. So aromatic. Clean. Pure, airy aromas. Opulent but racy with lovely freshness and loads of apricot and yellow fruits and gentle minerality and terrific length. Powerful yet serene. Terrific mouthfeel and texture. Concentrated and mouth filling and very long. Great.

Jun 28th, 2018This is like if Coche-Dury made Riesling! The richness combined with the freshness in this wine is just not fair. It is so, so good. I'm not going to introduce a new Riesling estate if it's not the goods and the top of the tops. This is still the newest one in the last two years and I've tasted a lot. The Koberner has more blue slate and this wine is like a lower Mosel interpretation of a Middle Mosel wine. A lot of the classic Mosel thing you get is from blue slate. So this is by far the most mineral of all the wines that Materne and Schmitt make so naturally I had to offer it as it's shockingly great and in 2017 it's the best value Riesling I've had in ages. Stunning nose. Drop dead. Rich yellow fruits. Lovely racey herbal aromas with profound purity and depth. After some air gorgeous white flowers. Huge minerality that is super penetrating. It's so refined and straight as an arrow. Really just wonderful aromas. The palate is incredibly juicy and rich with jaw dropping purity. Terrific ripeness and a brilliant texture. Oh man is this silly good. Like a cross between Battenfeld Moelsheim and Coche Dury! Wow what an insane texture worth endless depth. Stunning. Beautiful freshness and acidity allied with richness it is just to die for. Incredible palate staining length. Wow oh wow oh wow. This wine is why I opened this company. Exquisite balance and so, so pure. After 45 minutes the minerality takes over. So sappy with incredible dry extract. It has it all. What a wine.

Smokey nose. Palate is great. Lovely rich fruit. Big acidity nice density on the palate. Pure as pure lemon zest. Wow. Like the best ever. There’s some indescribable savory thing going on that’s just bloody awesome. Lovely internal aromatics. Savory finish with a brisk acidic zing. Wow. This is a winery to watch and stock up on before the inevitable fame, price doubling and allocation game. Bought from Fass Selections.
