A rich and darkly inviting blend of plum sauce, clove, cocoa and camphor makes the 2016 Taurasi Riserva Radici impossible to ignore. This is pure class, pliant and enveloping on the palate, with silken waves of ripe red and black fruit guided by brisk acidity. Citrus and inner herbal tones add tremendous depth. The 2016’s regal tannins come forward through the close, framing the experience with youthful poise without slowing its momentum, leaving chalky mineral tones and nuances of nectarine to linger. The balance here is something to behold. Bury this beauty deep in the cellar. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2023)

A highly characteristic nose of sweaty salty tart small dark berries (yes I need 5 adjectives :-), pinot-like red cherries, and some salty garden herbs; elegant and surprisingly light on the palate (13.5% alc) with fine tannins, but full of flavors and a long creamy finish. For me, aglianico is an odd but exciting grape.

Established in the 1750s by winemaker Pietro di Mastro Berardino. Ruby with complex aromas of berry fruit, spice, floral and oak. On the palate rich fruit flavors of cherry and black raspberry with sweet spice, full oak and slight herb notes. Big grippy tannins, savory, lingering ending with a lot of oak but should soften with time. Very nice!

Fig, toasted black currants, licorice, dried cranberry, sanguine, tobacco, orange peel, mushroom/soil, and thyme. Full body, gripping tannins and elevated acidity still after 8 years.
