Radici Riserva Taurasi Aglianico

Popped and poured into red Solo cups. The 1997 “Radici” Riserva pours a garnet color with a near opaque core and a slightly orange rim; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe, tart, and some desiccated fruit: Montmorency cherry, plum, licorice, smoked meat, balsamico, a mix of organic and inorganic earth, exotics spices and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tanning and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and earthy. This was quite the departure from the Napa wines surrounding it but made a statement. Drink now through 2037.

Floral with tart plum and dirt. Absolutely stunning.

Took a while to open up. Very spicy with baked plums and a bit of tapenade on the nose. Still plenty of tannin but fruit starting to fade. Drink now. Preferably with me.

Unbelievable.

Every vintage I’ve had has been spectacular. The cork looked 2 years old. The wine was still tart and the tannins had softened and smoothed out. We had this elk and that paring worked very well. A delight in every way.

At NoMad, super yummy! The viscosity changed the more it opened. Enjoyed much more than the 1998 consumed at L'Artusi

Tart saccharine berries, ripe stone fruits, thyme, black pepper, tar. Quite stylish with a structural elegance in a class of its own. Long, happy ending.
