Brief notes at a good Italian restaurant in Sanctuary Cove. We don’t often drink Amarone but we love it when we do. Rich and supple, blackberry like liquid Fruit and Nut milk chocolate. Touch of liquorice. An excellent match with Beef Ragu with Pappardelle pasta.

A winner for aging as usual

Still took a couple of Hours to open up, like a good Amarone should.

Nose of blackberry licorice
Deep black fruits playing with bright red ones, subtle licorice, still very heavy in body, with the perfect tannin to acidity Ratio.
Last one in the cellar me thinks.

What a classic(o). Masi calls this their gentle giant and that’s pretty accurate. Pale in complexion and and soft to drink, but still powerful and sophisticated.

Gentle light orange and brick hues. Leather and earth, dried fruits, some tobacco and smoky notes. Really soft and round acidity, but still medium bodied and great tannic qualities that play nicely with the cherries and tomato vine flavors that stand out. Good long finish. Worth the hype.

The 2017 Amarone Classico Costasera is intense, with masses of dried black cherries and mocha complicated by spiced citrus rinds and a dusting of cocoa. This is a total pleasure on the palate, seamlessly silky and elegant with a spicy core of red fruits. The 2017 tapers off with tremendous length, staining the palate in youthful concentration yet remaining completely fresh. (Eric Guido, Vinous, March 2023)

Deep ruby red wine; powerful and bold with sound structural tannins. Full-bodied, juicy, and complex; not for the faint of heart! Violets, dark fruit, and licorice with subtle earthy notes highlight this wine’s complexity.

Raisin, fig, prune, wet hay and warm baked fruit including black cherries on the palette. Paired well with sea salt dark chocolate.

I. Did not. Enjoy this. But why? It shouldn’t be spoiled yet, should it? So bitter.

Rich and fruity right off the bat but dry herbs and flowers appear after giving it a few whirls. There is a clear sweetness to the wine and some alcohol heat. The fruit is dark and warm.

Classic straightforward amarone. I find it a bit lacking in complexity but the flavors are pure : plum, cherry, a bit of anise and leather and something herbal reminiscent of Rhône garrigue. Good length. Full bodied (over 15% abv)
