The Delectable description of this wine says “Grenache Blend,” but this is 100% Grenache. Decadent nose has intense, rich, mulled raspberry juice shot through with baking spice and warm sandstone minerality and roasted green herbs. Intensely flavored, with a a large scale initial wallop of fruit that quickly turns savory and peppery, with the fruit making a reprise on the fairly long finish. Lowish acids. With slightly less peppery heat (it’s 15.3%) and higher acidity, this would have been a superstar, but still, right now, it’s very satisfying.

Apr 27th, 2019Big, staining ruby with lighter purple accents. Mint, black tea, cherries, and boysenberry on the nose. Also, heat. Lots of heat. That 15.6 definitely shows throughout and leaves an impression but that’s what the people want, it seems. This wine is exactly what it seems, well made but loud and designed to appeal to literally everyone. Full bodied with high acidity, this is a bit of a bruiser. Nothing dainty going on here. Big, fat dark fruit and Newport menthols on the palate. Spice on the shortish finish. This is fine for what it is, it’s just not for me.
