Louis Jadot
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir
PnP. Dark purple tawny, almost opaque. Hearty nose. Notes of cherry kirsch, balsa wood, smoked meat and some olives. Rich and slightly hot in the mouth. Still has some pucker. Chewy. Powerful wine, pretty decent for the hot vintage.

Aug 7th, 2021Dark scarlet tawny. Barely translucent. Enticing, deep nose. Notes of raspberries, bing cherries, rhubarb, pepper, menthol and some tart strawberries. Noticeable fruit in the mouth, but it’s holding something back. Feels like it wants to be impactful but it’s too shy to announce it’s presence. Has a nice coolness with a hint of menthol in the nose and finish. There is probably upside in waiting a few more years on these, and if you open one today give it ample hours of decanter time.

May 1st, 2021Tasted blind. On to the reds, we're served two side by side. This is light tawny color, translucent. Masculine nose. Notes of black fruit, dark earth, cherries and some hickory. Very rustic, which led me to a 1989 guess as to the vintage. Guessed 89 Rousseau Clos de Beze. I've had this Jadot bottle several times over the years... this was clearly the best performance for it, and bottles like tonight's easily have another decade in front of it but I don't think it will get any better with more age.

Aug 16th, 2020Another winner. Roasted meat, both black and green olive, still some unresolved tannins and edge from @Joe Lucca

May 16th, 2019Wonderful evening at the City Club courtesy of Jeff’s hosting at the Friday group. Cellar guessing Jeff is a dangerous game as he’s the type who plans to throw curveballs! All wines served blind.
Zero guesses of Pinot around the table. Most (like myself) guessed late 90s Napa Cab. Red and black fruit was powerful up front but subdued on the mid palate. Gained some darker fruit/black cherry and was more fruit forward than the La Conseillante.

Clear light ruby to the rims. Linear nose with notes of raspberry, cherry, rhubarb. Rich and round. Fruit forward. A bit of heat.

1 person found it helpfulMay 26th, 2019Certainly on the downside, but all you could want from a mature Grand Cru Burgundy. Savory and brothy, but with a solid core of red fruits. Pretty aromatics. Initially pretty tired, but freshened quickly in the decanter. Had a good strong 90 minutes before gracefully starting to head to its decline. You can find the damnedest things on the strangest lists in the oddest places.
