Sipping Fine Wine

Château Larrivet Haut-Brion was acquired by the Gervoson family in 1987 and restored the estate including outbuildings, grounds, and even replanting 18 hectares of land. Dark Ruby with dark fruit aromas and herb spice. On the palate cherry, strawberry and currant flavors with cacao, leather, herb and pepper spice. Fine tannins with underlying bitterness on the lingering finish ending with mineral notes. Nice offering but needs more time. Tasting Sample.

Deep ruby in color with a short purplish rim.

Stinky nose with blueberries, currants, oak, barnyard, earth, green vegetables, herbs, smoke, alcohol, vinaigrette, peppercorn, spices, licorice, bell pepper, eucalyptus and forest floor.

Medium plus in body, smooth and elegant, with medium plus acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth, spices, wet leaves, leather, smoke, chocolates, leather, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm tannins (after 3 hours) and black pepper.

This left bank Bordeaux is still very young but drinkable, nonetheless. Very earthy on both the palate and nose, with lots of vegetable notes. Very complex and nicely balanced. Nice acidity keeps it interesting. Will be better in 5 to 10 years.

Needed 4 hours to open up properly and remove some of the barnyard smell.

I paired it with hard and soft cheeses, and small appetizers.

14% alcohol by volume.

Still needs more time idealy, 60 min decant.
Cherry, strawberry, leather, and subtle spice.
Drank with grilled steaks. Paired perfectly.

Nice aromatics. Drinking several tonight, but this is the better of the Bordeaux.

Young but still approachable with a short decant. I decanted for 30 minutes.

Cherry, strawberry and leather on the palate.

Good now with potential to be a few points better.
