Mix of garnet and ruby red. Mature nose with truffles, plums, cocoa, spices and cassis. Integrated tannins (6/10) and medium plus body. Smooth and integrated palate with cocoa, raspberries, black fruit, herbal and a little bit of minerality. Medium plus to long finish. Drink till 2020.

Very interesting wine from up on Diamond Mountain, showing the classic elements of a cold, wet vintage. Dark, inky ruby red with garnet edges. Some funkiness on the nose, cigar box, barnyard, wet tobacco leaves and some truffles. Definitely seems older than it is. Very complex and layered palate with dark stewed berries, cassis, damp wood, tobacco leaves, and some damp earthiness. Some light greenery and plums in the long and lingering finish. Moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Some bright acidity in the mid palate alongside a creamy and extracted texture. Definitely needs some time to open up and show the layers and complexity. Reminds us of the 2011 Brown Label by Mark Herold. Drink till 2023.

Can’t believe it’s been over a year since my last bottle. Absolutely love this wine. Gorgeous floral and fruit nose. Black, then blue ripe fruit, camphor, eucalyptus, black licorice, pencil lead. Silky soft tannins, perfectly balanced, incredibly mouthfeel. Full bodied but light on its feet. Long finish. Tasting better now than my last time, so raising the rating.

Deep dark garnet in the glass. Lovely ripe black fruit nose. Very nice smooth mouthfeel. Chalky tannins. An hour + decant is preferred. Blue fruit primarily, with black and red filling in. Minerality, stone, oak, vanilla. This is my first bottle of the 17, we’ll see how it ages, but drinking well, though at this point I prefer the 15.

Fantastic bottle once again. Perfectly drinking now or can definitely wait. Big ripe black and blue fruit. Earth and mineral. Opening up to oak and vanilla, dark chocolate. Well balanced structure. Tannins still firm but smooth. Gorgeous wine. I’ll try to hold off another couple years before my next bottle…try being the key word as this wine is so good.
