This past Saturday evening with good friends we opened the 2005 La Rioja Alta Viña Arana Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend.

On the nose there was black cherry, blackberry, red currant, floral notes, fig, leather, a touch of vanilla and dried soil.

On the palate the cherry came through in a big way, with blackberry, red currant, blood orange, herbal notes, clove, licorice and dusty earth.

This wine is silky smooth medium to plus bodied with medium + acidity and medium + grippy tannins that lead to a long spicy finish. Another very enjoyable wine. Be safe and start your weekend off right. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Value old school Rioja, poopy and barnyardy with a sour red fruit core, licorice, leather, orange peel, spices, and some vanilla. Smooth and light to midbodied, very dry and high acid, fresh and easy to drink with food.

Started to decay a bit, softening the wine and adding sutiles golden tones. Nevertheless a gem

The 2009 seems tight to me. I am not sure if it still can use more time in bottle or if there is something off on the balance of the wine.
