The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is a gorgeous wine for readers who want to get a good sense of the Salvioni house style. Powerful and virile, with tons of personality, the 2016 is terrific. Grilled herbs, smoke, tobacco, licorice and menthol wrap around a core of dark Sangiovese fruit in this brooding, intense Rosso from the Salvioni family. The savory qualities of Sangiovese come through beautifully here. This is such a gorgeous Rosso. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2019)

Very stylish, more influence from oak. More like a Brunello in character than a true Rosso.

A year when the Salvioni family declassified all their brunello and just made rosso. Balanced nose with classic cherry notes together with herbs and orange rinds. Silky mature tannins, lovely length and lucious acidity. A benchmark rosso di Montalcino.

Definitely a wine that took me by surprise. Not inexpensive for a Rosso but totally worth it.

Opened on TG. Even with 6-7 hours, it never really opened up. Tight, high acid. Recorked and gave it until Saturday and what a transformation. Mushroom, earth, leather, with fruit still present. Happy to have had the second experience
