The 2004 Vintage is a gorgeous Champagne that is just beginning to enter its first plateau of maturity. Dried flowers, brioche, mint, marzipan, tangerine peel and spice lend notable nuance throughout. A hint of reduction adds intrigue. As always, the 2004 is a linear, focused Champagne endowed with terrific energy. It is impeccably done. There's a bit more Chardonnay and Meunier than usual in this vintage, and that very much comes through in the wine's personality and overall feel. The blend is 37% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay and 24% Meunier as opposed to the more classic 50%/35%/15% blend. Disgorged: Summer 2018. Krug ID: 318031. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2024)

Lighter in color than the 2002 Dom next to it. Nice nose but lacking complexity initially. With air this shows citrus, white stone, some brioche toast and some oatmeal. Looking forward to trying this again in a few years.

Not too ostentatious. Delicious, powerful with some savory green notes.

Medium yellow , gold reflexes . Nice yellow fruits , with buttered pastry , mushroom richness , mineral hints . On the palate quite intense with orange peel, lemon notes , buttered pastry , quite intense mineral , chalky hints , high acidity . Good length with and toasty almonds and vanilla tinge . This is still showing quite young and fresh , and is enjoyable to drink now . From now over the next 10 years

Here we go. Back to the Krug 2004; been 5 years and it aged nicely. Still going very strong; this will continue to age for 20+ years

2004 vintage. Beautiful, gilded color. Airy, appley nose. Plenty of acidity paired with ripeness. Likely best in 4-5 years but can see a clear path to the summit now. 9.21.23.

Happy 8th Anniversary to the love of my life!! We’re celebrating with a bottle of Krug Vintage 2004

To underscore the unique features of each Vintage Champagne, Krug assembles a blend of expressive, representative wines from the year and then matures the final product for at least 10 years before release. This particular wine spent 12 years on the lees. It was disgorged in 2016.

The 2004 Vintage was named “Luminous Freshness” paying homage to the summer sunrise and vibrant citrus notes it exudes. This blend consists of 39% Chardonnay, 37% Pinot Noir, and 24% Meunier varieties, each playing a role in the final style.

With a golden hue, this wine offers developed aromas of baked apple, lemon peel, grapefruit pith, dried white blossom, blanched almond, brioche, toast, marzipan, and wet slate. It’s balanced and complex, with a lingering finish and delicate, long-lasting mousse.

This wine pairs wonderfully with the slow-cooked halibut in a creamy, fennel and lemon sauce alongside a zucchini and squash salad. The intensity and richness of the wine and food work well in concert.

Absolutely wonderful. Has room to go for years and years. Crazy long finish - one of the longest I’ve had for a champagne. Quite rich and yeasty in a great way. Some white fruit and great acid and medium bubbles. Really delicious. Perfect pairing with fried chicken, and a fun bottle to celebrate our son’s 6 month birthday!
