Kistler
Hudson Vineyard Chardonnay
Thanks to @Mark Flesher for opening this as a side by side versus my 2016 Aubert Hudson. Same vintage, same vineyard source, very different wines. Whereas the Aubert was rich and powerful on both the nose and palate, this was decidedly more herbal on the nose with hay, herbal spices and underripe honeydew. Similar to the Aubert in how round and soft it was initially, but this one has less of the sweet fruit and toasted oak and in turn, has more sea spray, limestone, with added poached pear toward the middle and finish.

Aug 30th, 2019Finally, wifey and I can report some progress. Wine cellar is now finished, and we love it. The germ of the idea came from @Mo Salem when we were in demolition phase. We took it from there. 6 months later, here were are.
Onto the Kistler, which is a lovely example, but I detect it’s on the decline. Having said that, it has a great nose of peaches, honey and pistachios. Visually, you can see that the chassis is a rich, golden color, suggesting corrosion. Palate is creamy and dense. Acid has given way to some cardboard notes, but this is still a good example from a great producer.

Jun 23rd, 2018I absolutely appreciate the toasted hazelnuts and butterscotch on the nose, but I should of used those 90 dollars towards a Montrachet. It was missing the freshness, a little lift and bright acidity that I’m used to seeing from this producer.

Mar 6th, 2018Got to take advantage of another Wednesday Wine Committee and boy was it worth it. Wow! Killer wines brought by Glenn for his 60th! As always, wines tasted blind. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert wine.
A battle between this and the Stone Flat for White of the day, but this edged out. Very little oak presence, but it still had a great body and texture to it without being overly crisp. Some wanted to go to burgundy with this, but the aromatics gave it away...you could tell is was a premier producer's young wine. Lovely stuff.

Caramel coated apple on a stick you get at the carnival. I mean this in the most complimentary way possible. The wine is still so alive!
