30-year-old Washington Lemberger (aka Blaufrankisch). Shockingly youthful color shows barely a hint of age with amazingly fresh aromas and palate. Blueberries and ripe plums. Red Mountain minerality brings a degree of subtle complexity with aeration.

Red? Medium pigment extraction, very good clarity. Woody herbal flavors, cherry and black currant finish. Some unexpected flavors in there so the Lagrein varietal comparison is more apt than I anticipated. With more development, some spice and eucalyptus emerges. Good value but strikes me as different from previous releases by Kiona. Have the grapes changed their varietal expression (climate change), the winemaking, or my palate? Nice wine, good value but no answers, friends

Medium purple. Nose of slightly herbal American oak, which makes the dark fruits notes seem a little foxy/Labrusca-like to me. CO2 prickle on palate, which lowers score for me.
Maybe foxy character because we paired w Mexican food (raw white onions in sale?)
Tasty but I was hoping for a bit more fruit/ripeness.

Drinks like a Syrah without the tannins. Fruity, light, easy drinking.

Less character than past vintages, which is starting to look like a trend, but still has great drinkability. Consistently one of my favorite WA wines in the $10 range.

Pretty intense. Reminds me of Lagrein. Grape jelly, baking spices, pepper, moderate plus acid. Great by itself and with juicy foods.
