K Vintners
The Cattle King Upland Vineyard Syrah
This may be my favorite K wine to date. I double decanted this for about two hours and then consumed from bottle over the next three.
If I’m looking for a comparison, this reminded me of a Tensley Colson Ranch but with whole cluster/stem inclusion. Deep purple in the glass. There is a perfumed/fragrant nose of sweet fruit (rich and ripe black and blueberries) crusted with dark cocoa, then veers to the herbs de Provence and green/stemmy style. Absolutely gorgeous on the palate with a nervy mineral driven core of acidity. Violets, grilled dark fruits, mocha, and peppercorn covered black currant. Touch of salinity. Finish is really quite integrated already. This may be showing all its got at the moment (which is impressive) but I expect it will hang in this window another 3+yrs before the fruit/savory balance starts tipping toward mostly savory. Enjoy now!

Bright, energetic for a Syrah. High tones.

Feb 21st, 2020Boy, this was one cheeky Syrah. Tasted more like a Shiraz. Rich, various layers of flavors starting with a dry dark fruit to a sweet oak impregnated fig finish with lots of spice. Spread from the front of your mouth to the back of my cheeks. While I write this it is actually still tingling. Charles Smith at his best.

Nov 19th, 2021First time having K Vintners. Incredibly ripe with a strong backbone. Youthful. Reminds me of Paso Syrah.

Syrah royalty. Bing Cherries, raspberry, dried plums, not a lot of spice like I associate with Washington Syrah especially like the other 2016 k vintner wines. Best Syrah I’ve had from K Vintners. Wow
