Joseph Drouhin
Marquis de Laguiche Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay
The 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru is a little oakier and creamier on the nose than its peers, yet with enormous depth of fruit that crashes over the olfactory senses. But perhaps it needs more delineation? It seems slightly later-picked than its peers, giving off light caramel notes. The palate is medium-bodied and hewn from a richer style of this Grand Cru. Slightly viscous in texture, dense and powerful, it doesn't quite possess the killer clarity and/or mineralité on the finish as the best in the flight. Impressive nonetheless, this is a Montrachet with real heft. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, December 2023)

Golden in color. Rich and lush. Lovely golden honeyed fruit, a hint of mint, beautiful soft acidity. Very balanced and composed- and long. Excellent

Jul 1st, 2023A crazy nose. Super tropical: passion fruit, banana, plasticine. Almost like a Sauternes from a heavy botrytis vintage. On the palate less exotic but pretty opulent still. Honey and tang. Slightly clunky compared to the 2010 alongside.

Oct 17th, 2021Tasted blind. Was told this comes from a bottle with a high fill. Medium gold, heavy in the glass. Old, oxidated nose with notes of caramel, butterscotch and some lemon. The fruit is a bit lost, but you can tell this is juice that has/had some big complexity. Comes across as old Montrachet to me. I guess 83 L Latour Montrachet. This particular bottle was past its peak but still very enjoyable.

Mar 21st, 2021Tasted blind. Deep gold color. Notes of lemon zest, stones, mint, red clay soil, some creme brulee. Big fruit in the mouth, light but persistent acidity. Great juice. Guessed 90 Ramonet Batard.

Feb 5th, 2020Has opened out to be plush. Faded at the edges. Settled on the midpalate with a little spearmint at edges and confit lemon. Slightly Spivey and dusty on the end.
