Joh. Jos. Prüm
Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese Riesling
After our discussion on the two kabi’s (see my notes on the 18’ Haart Ohligsberg Alte Reben kabi for more info), I asked SC what Prüm brings in terms of a signature… what’s typical of Prüm basically. His answer - sulphides. Hahahahaha. Couldn’t be truer. Took some time for all that to blow away, but once it did… Boah! Our WOTN.
Still so youthful (I’m sure all that sulphides helped). Citrus, peach, white flowers, crushed slate, herbs, and spices. Really filigreed and pure; bringing lots of juiciness in the mid-palate and finishing with an airy feel. Expectedly sweet but very balanced at this stage. So good.

Cork was really bad after the shipment got here so i decided to open it...
And it was singing.. on the sweet side, i would dare to say feinherb style
Mile feuille, wet stones...super mineral, fresh and in an amazing balance.
Long and good.
Hints of petrol station that go and come back.

Jan 25th, 2020Smoky minerality, well integrated bright acidity, juicy stone fruit flavors, and overall great balance is very impressive!

Jul 27th, 2014Motor oil/ burning clutch on the nose, prickly petillance, acid not apparent due to sugar, would never know its 10 yrs, very rich fruit and concentrated flavor under $100 on our list

Feb 26th, 2014What, no petrol? I just love the Prum style and especially Wehlener Sonnenheur, but usually the auslese. Here I was expecting more evolution from the 2004, but I suspect this is it. Pale greeny good colour. White fruit in flavour with good length and lovely balance. Slight effervescence. V nice thirst quencher on a hot day

Perfect! If you see this please don't buy or drink! Instead send it to me. Believe me, I'm saving you from a Riesling buzz!

Jun 18th, 2015Straw in the glass. Classic Prum nose of match that clears to nuances of tropical fruit and white florals. Acid and sweetness integrated. Pears and grapefruit. Still quite youthful. Classic WS Spat.
