Aug 14th, 2017Very enjoyable--not over done. Chocolate, blackberry, new leather, and a bit of Syrah burnt rubber or bacon fat. Would have judged this Rhone if not for high AbV. One of the best in this price range.

Nice nose of white flowers, blackberries, black currants, plums, bell pepper, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, vegetables, asparagus, spices, leather, smoke, barnyard, dust, earth, eucalyptus, black pepper and spices.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cherries, plums, oak, earth, vanilla, licorice, cloves, leather, green pepper, chocolates, smoke, bitter herbs, peppercorn and Mediterranean spices.
Medium finish with firm, green tannins and black pepper.
This is a harsh Shiraz from Clare Valley in South Australia. Enjoyable with food, but not just by itself. It has nice complexity and balance.
Needs 90 minutes in a decanter to fully open up, but drinkable right out of the bottle.
14.5% alcohol by volume.

A legend from the Clare and very fetching in its new livery. Big & opulent but never losing its balance. One of the Barry boys best.
