Next up in my @wineselectors Family Favourites #sample case is the Jim Barry 2016 Shiraz & Cabernet blend which is teamed up with a very delicious red wine brined roast chicken and gravy recipe. It’s on the list of recipes to try this winter!

In the glass this red blend is a deep ruby red with purple highlights. The nose is full of candied black cherries, violet flowers, leather and wonderfully intoxicating spice. In the mouth it’s full of flavour with liquorice and sweet black fruits dominating. Yum!

Last night we decided to take this bottle out on a BYO date to 8 Napkins in Bassendean, these guys do awesome burgers 🍔. I figured a Shiraz/Cab would go well with a nice meaty burger - and it did! Also the jalapeño poppers and mac & cheese bits from 8 Napkins are awesome! These guys have been added to my ever-growing list of BYO spots in Perth: travellingcorkscrew.com.au/blog/byo-restaurants-perth
On the eye the wine is a deep ruby red with a tinge of purple. It has a warmth on the nose with a distinct savoury/earthy character to it alongside dark fruits. In the mouth it has super smooth flavours with a lovely juicy finish. The burgers were truly complimented by this vino!

Aromas of sweet chocolate and blackberry. Pretty pure cabernet, under ripe cherry in the finish, a bit flabby and not hugely complex. The price is right.
