Still packs a punch at ten years—dense, chewy, with deep red and black fruit, mocha, wood, prune. Wow, I might even be a believer.

A very clever blend of four grapes. A fun and playful wine for middle of the week kind of mischief.

Dinner with the in-laws at our favorite restaurant in Fort Worth.

My in-laws brought this as we all enjoy Jessup wines...as you can see by the score, this is a nice wine, but it’s just incredibly young. This wine is always Jessup’s last to mature. It will improve by 1-2 pts in time, so part of this is based on potential as well as current enjoyment. A lot of underripe dark fruit, oak, acidity and big tannic structure at first. Nutmeg, plum, currant and dark chocolate come through after. If you’re opening, decant at least 1-2hrs.

2011 is jammin! Very good. Lots of fruit and well-rounded tannins. Oak, vanilla, cedar, cassis, and lead all compliment the raspberry and blueberry. Still a bit young but approachable. Will improve with a few years age. Also 14.5 ABV is not overpowering but actually gives the fruit a nice angle on the mid-palate and finish. Solid 92.

Not a trip out to Napa without visiting a household favorite. Personal opinion alert 🚨, but I think Jessup is the most consistent across multiple varietals for the price. One of the few wineries we are club members of. Their zin is the best I've tasted, and their cab blend Table for Four and merlot blend Juel are drop dead gorgeous. These wines are more fruit forward than most (lots of boysenberry and blackberry on the palate) but their cab franc is the secret star...earthy, herbs, leather and plum. Being here produces smiles!

And Yes! There she was, where have you been hiding??? Always great to run in a near perfect wine. That is what we live for, searching every day (actually every other day, try not to drink wine every day 😊). Bold dark fruit framed by angular tannins and a robust backbone, all in an extreme intense harmony, taking over your senses and putting you in a hypnotic trance. We set the palette with a few different hard cheeses, an aged Gouda cheese, a Harvarti and P’tit Basque (all at Costco!) which lifted the wine to outer orbit. I am writing this the next day and still haven’t quite returned to earth.
