Jessup Cellars
Napa Valley Cabernet Franc
Wednesday night “whoops”. Meant to grab a different Jessup wine and ended up with this one somehow. After having the ‘13 six months ago, my note was “too early”. This is farther along but still wound up tight. Last of my Jessup CabFrancs.
Very floral on the nose...almost potpourri like. Violet. Darker than the ‘13. Additional meat notes. Tannic. Very nice texture on the palate. Finish is a tad hot, but it’s got nice flavors of licorice, raspberries, not yet ripe blackberries, and an herbal/pepper spice. I’m sure this will be better tomorrow evening with additional air.

Channeling our Christmas spirit and getting the house decked out called for an easy and unique drinker. Again, Jessup wines are house wines for us...great value across all their varieties. I’ve got to say though, this cab franc is quite wound up. I remember having the ‘12 last year and it was almost pop and pour. This, not so much. Very floral on the nose...almost potpourri like. Violet. Small trace of green bell pepper, but very minimal. Tannins are still pretty high. Very nice texture on the palate. Finish is a tad hot, but it’s got nice flavors of red licorice, raspberries, not yet ripe blackberries, and an herbal/pepper spice.

Nov 28th, 2017It's no secret that we love Jessup Cellars. I believe they have the friendliest tasting room in Napa, and it's even better that the wines are excellent. Their cab franc is a rarity, but unbelievably smooth. No traces of green pepper on the nose or tongue like many cab francs have. Very earthy. Lots of plums as well.

Aug 9th, 2015Not as good as the 2009, but still awesome. Inky, slightly floral, but with a perfectly dry finish
