Jarvis Winery
Will Jarvis' Science Project Napa Valley Cabernet Franc
First time trying and wow - nicely woven integrated wine but my friend and fellow wine nerd @Shay A says it best so borrowing his comments from 2018 and I quote
“Jarvis winery is one of my all time favorite winery visits in Napa. Their caves are the most impressive I've seen, along with their natural springs running through the tunnels. Their merlot is my favorite out of Napa, and their
Cab Franc is a close second. This is 95% CF, 5% merlot. It balances ripe Napa CF and Loire Valley CF. Streak of green bell pepper down the middle with herbal spice, ripe
blackberry and stemmy dark fruits. There is plum, and spice cake on the finish. This needed an hour+ for the mid palate to beefen up and match the entry and finish”
Bravo and well said Shay - glad I found my patience with this wine bud

Started out a bit odd and green but really came around after about an hour. Still some green there but typical for cab franc. Dark fruit. Love Jarvis wines.

Jan 19th, 2019Updating some tasting notes after my trip to Napa a few weeks back.
This thing is crazy. Green pepper hit me in the face when it first hit the nose. On the palate, a bit of a bite in terms of the CabFranc make itself known, but evens out very nicely after breathing.

Solid cab franc with a supple core of fruit with an earthiness that stays away from being green.

Aug 17th, 2013Jarvis will always have a special place in my heart and in the wine scene. To believe this was first made my Will Javis in 8th grade as a science project is iconic. You can taste the difference in using fresh oak barrels. This Cabernet franc would pair really well with lamb chops or a ribeye, Camembert cheese, or even some fire roasted veggies.

Oct 5th, 2024Nice enough as a wine, but can’t say that it has either the green pepper or the somewhat “purple”ish qualities of cab franc that I’ve come to expect from the Loire and Napa, respectively. Maybe too old? This was a gift and so not sure what the storage conditions were, slightly stewed. Still nice pairing with chicken thighs with olives and feta.
