Jacques Puffeney
Arbois Pinot Noir
Arbois, Jura, France

So fun to try, and unlike another other pinot I've had. It was funky on the nose at first, really smelled like arbois marl, kinda flinty with a hint of buttcrack. On the palate 'twas much richer than anticipated, which was cool. Something almost chocolately about it, with powerful earth concentration and appealing bing cherry I think (that's the black one yea?) puffeney is a master, and worthy of the fanfare.

Mineral, pretty Pinot fruit. Flowers. Juicy, elegant, more material than the VV. Somewhat long. Delicate and very balanced.

Decanted for 90+ minutes. Initially lean, but began filling out with time. May become more nuanced with time, but VA character is personally unappetizing.

Wet stone. Perfumed rose water. Fruit punch jolly rancher. Bright, tart red fruit. Pepper, saline and quiet spice. High-toned, puckering acid. Cool tannic grip.

Dec 31st, 2015Pretty much exactly what you would expect Puff Jura Pinot to taste like. Balance with funk. He is/was worth the hype. It's a shame these wines have only recently received such attention.
