Wallufer Walkenberg Spätlese trocken Riesling
A seriously mysterious wine - idiosyncratically traditional, traditionally idiosyncratic. Secondary and tertiary aromas shine, but there’s still plenty of fruit - apricot, nectarine. Smoke, Stone. Wow.

Oct 21st, 2018Slick. Kumquat, honey and petrol. I thought this was beautiful with plenty of life ahead. Both consensus and my WWOTN.

Jan 25th, 2016Gorgeous, deep golden, almost amber color. A full nose, giving the impression of sweetness that is definitely not there. The palate is rich with still striking acidity for a 27 year-old wine. The flavors are a little more primary with notes of crunchy apple and citrus with a nice touch of stone. The acidity manages to linger for close to a minute on the palate.

Jun 14th, 2017First taste of this producer getting a lot of buzz lately and I cannot say I'm sold. Color in the glass says a lot about the flavor - this tastes ooooold - I would've guessed 1970s if it were poured blind - well past its best for my tastes. It says trocken on the label but surprisingly is pretty far away from bone dry. Very soft, sweetly dulled edges here, essentially the opposite of the sharp, linear style you'd get from a young trocken. Fruit profile is melon and mulled apple, and while not exactly a model of freshness or brightness it is still fruit, though not much else there.
