Niersteiner Paterberg Spätlese Riesling
Spot on. Such an under rated producer. It's all about the red slate.

Jun 28th, 2024This is one of the very, very few 2001 German Spatlese I’ve opened that is simply past it, showing clear oxidative aromas and flavors, this is ordinary at best, particularly for a 2001. . . .

Apr 24th, 2023Apricot, peach, faint petrol aromas as well, similar flavors, great acidity as well, color makes it look mature, but super fresh and I’d guess another 10+ years of further aging are in store!!

Apr 15th, 2022Got lost in the cellar - yeah, 2001 was an incredible vintage, but I missed this by like 5-6 yrs. Really dark & oxidized but still sportin rich peach & apricot - no petrol but still plenty of orchard fruit. On the palate it is big, lumbering & viscous: sweet core of confectionery sugar leading to short-ish finish. Paired w/spicy Asian chicken & rice.
