Più Colli Berici Carménère - Merlot Blend
The 2019 Carménère Piu boasts peppery florals balanced by rich brown spices and crushed cherries. This is silky and round, with pretty inner perfumes that dominate the sensation; it’s also remarkably elegant in feel. It leaves the palate classically dry but fresh, finishing with medium length and leaving hints of hard red candies. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Italian Carmenere? Oh, yes. Okay, there's 25% Merlot, but it's a great bottle with lush fruit with good minerality, tannin and acid balance.

1 person found it helpfulMay 11th, 2015Carmenere from Italy?! Fascinating. A modern style but not overpowering. Mellowed by about 20% merlot, soft oak, vanilla, red plum. There's a nice electricity to it, minerality and hot rock. Very sippable

Apr 2nd, 20177t% Carmenere & 25% Merlot. Clean & supple, this is more Merlot than Carmenere, whatever the percentages say. Soft tannins, integrated acidity and bushels of black plums define this smartly crafted wine.

Aug 26th, 2015leaner than it was a few vintages ago, but no sign of under-ripe green flavors. there are many ways to introduce california drinkers to the old world, but this seems like the right wine to bring folks that have started drinking wine with malbec to italy.

Feb 12th, 2015This is a tight, fun Italian Carmenere! Beautiful bright cherry hue. Nose is soft with plum and subtle spice. Tongue is cherry forward w soft oak and long peppery finish in the back of the throat. Tannic structure. Would stand up great against rich foods of the tomato saucy or grilled meat varieties.

Feb 6th, 2022Complex nose of plum, black cherry, black olive, and black pepper. Palate doubled down on the dark, slightly underripe fruit with some pepper and black tea along the way. Nice structure and balance with medium acidity and tannin.
Carménère from the Veneto?! Yes please! This exceeded expectation and fit in great with some pan seared ribeye.
