I Pentri
Flora Beneventano Falanghina
One of my favorite southern Italian whites, and one I always prefer with a few years of age. Paired with spaghetti and fried zucchini discs cooked into a cream sauce with basil and grated pecorino. Did not get to try the dish but diners seemed pleased. Biodynamic.

Jun 3rd, 2024So consistently good. Pineapple, baked apricot and golden raisin. Medium to full with stern acidity. I’ve found this wine is best at 3-5 years with a decant. So unique and original. Love the packaging.

Oct 22nd, 2023With each tilt of the 2021 Flora Falanghina, the senses light up. A seductive blend of fresh mint, peach preserves, sweet smoke and vanilla custard wafts up from the glass. It’s elegant yet potent, washing across the palate with textures like weighted silk guided by vibrant acidity as a contrasting core of crisp tart apple emerges. Its minerality comes through the finish, tapering off salty and mouthwatering, as a bitter twang of savory spice punctuates the experience. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2023)

Jun 15th, 2023Have yet to taste a bad vintage of this. Deep straw or gold in the glass. Highly aromatic. Pineapple, baked apricot, and honey. Bold with firm acidic structure. Fruit, minerality, and backbone. Screaming for Al Pastor tacos.

Mar 24th, 2022Tropical. Ripe and boozy but super tasty. Nice minerality and acidity hides behind the intense pineapple and 14.5% alc.
Certainly not insipid. Delicious with lamb over rice.

Crazy value at $22. Apricots, honey, marzipan, grapefruit.

Oct 10th, 2018I’ve had great bottles of I Pentri, but this was a failed cellaring experiment.

May 16th, 2018We tasted seven white wines from Campania and Sicily, all single grape varietals, 2009-2012. Clear standout of the group, our consensus #1!

1 person found it helpfulOct 2nd, 20212013 Vintage. Lovely wine, by far the best Falanghina I've tried this year. Loaded with ripe apricots, baked peaches and honey aromas. Zippy acidity. Complete package. Soon to be btg at Corkbuzz Charlotte.

Jul 24th, 20152010 is a large but delicious wine. Falanghina has the right to traverse 13.5% in my book--this wine case in point at 14.5% is still quite lovely and doesn't feel hot. Bergamot, lemon, honey, tarragon a bit. Candied orange, but never gets too big. Flirts with the roof.
