Ætneus Etna Rosso Nerello Blend

Such a rad bottle with the embossed albarello and "i Vigneri 1435." Anyway, it's like smoky liquid volcanic rocks and citrus fruit. The smell of the oils being expelled from the pith as you peel a blood orange. Lemon, too. And a tinge of black fruit, if you imagine the weightless flavor of a blackberry picked off a vine before it gets ripe enough to taste sweet over its acid. It even smells mineral. Focus and clarity without the rusticity/furry tannins and higher ripeness that Etna sometimes has. This is so good.

The dimensions of this wine are huge, and I don't mean alcohol, acidity, or tannin, though it has fair bit of all three. There's a depth or a third dimension that only wines from special places have. The fruit is bright and the color pale, but the wine is dark in character. It's the character that Etna has - that rocky, ashy, old balsamic, dusky mountain herb, intense etnosity.

Interesting wine, tight nose, fair amount of barrel on this one, earthy, smoky on the palate, fruit not standing up to it, has some fresh acid, med+ dry finish

Dried red fruit and herbs and dusty tannins. No sense of heat. Excellent cut and minerality on the finish.

Dark with a nose of black fruit. Spicy on tongue with a smooth finish. Paired with Susex pork, smoked kohlrabi, white beans and chorizo

Smoky hint of bacon nice red fruit. Delicious with potatoes and chicken

Earthy. Cheesy. Great!
