A new Rioja producer that specializes in whites, 100% Viura aged 16 months on the lees. 10 months in tank, 6 in 80% used and 20% new French oak barrels. This is an exceptional wine of very high quality, displaying beautiful clarity of terroir with intense precision and tension. Deeply mineral and fresh with tense acidity that is energizing and electric. Fresh citrus, nuts, saline, spring flowers, and chalky-limestone minerality.
Superb value at $23.

Slightly oxidized style but saline and herbal notes mix beautifully with nutty and apply richness. Great persistence, balance and restraint. I didn't know white Rioja could do this.

Honorío Rubio is a Riojano white and rosé specialist. In a land best known for its incredibly age-worthy reds, among many die-hards out there it is undoubtedly the traditional whites which represent Rioja's finest and most original wines. We would add as well the barrel aged rosés, which are incredibly rare (Lopez de Heredia's has not been available for over 5 years, and we hear that they will finally have a little bit of the next release, 2008, in 2018!) Honorío makes an absolutely killer rosé, from some of his oldest Viura and Garnacha, briefly macerated and co-fermented, then aged 16 months in used barrels (which previously held his Lias Finas white wine). An inimitable, rich and bright, incredibly food friendly style of rosé.
