Herdade Do Rocim
Amphora Branco Alentejo White Blend
Alentejo, Alentejano, Portugal

This wine is a golden yellow in the glass. The nose shows minerals, apples, stone fruit, and salinity with a lanolin backbeat. The palate has those same traits, but leans a bit heavier into the salinity. The acidity is fresh, but not razor-sharp. It finishes medium long. I paired mine with a lentil and sweet potato salad, with a good result.

Light straw in color with a golden hue.
Strong nose of yellow apples, spices, minerals, lemons, earth, orange peel, herbs and overripe citrus fruits.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity. Crisp and refreshing.
Dry on the palate with over ripened apples, citrus, cream, spices, light vegetables, light peaches, herbs, earth, limes and black pepper.
Nice finish with soft tannins and tangy limes.
This is Is a very interesting white blend from Portugal. Although crisp, it has a light buttery feel. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.
Better when not too cold, and after 20 minutes of airtime.
This is not my usual style, but I really enjoyed it.
Paired wonderfully with a Mediterranean dish of baked eggplant drizzled with Tahini.
A blend of 40% Antao Vaz, 20% Perrum, 20% Rabo de Ovelha and 20% Manteudo. Grapes are fermented and aged in amphora clay vessels with indigenous yeast.
A small production of only 4,000 bottles. Organic and vegan.
12% alcohol by volume.
90 points.
$21.

It ferments and ages in clay and they leave the stems on the whole time, creating a natural draining system. Not as dark as I would expect but very much textured.

Amphora Aged. Rustic would be putting it mildly. Super interesting, and perhaps a glimpse into what some whites perhaps used to taste like. Almost a sherry-like quality to it (oxidation?). Super dry. Worth a try if a bit on the nerdy side.

Antão vaz 40%, Perrum 20%, Rabo de Ovelha 20%, and Manteúdo 20%. Alc. 11.5%. 2013.
There's a lot to like here but I wish it wasn't coming from the warmest part of Portugal. The wine lacks lift and definition, but still has more integrity than most Southern Portuguese whites I've had.

Nose primarily of tire shop, rubber, petrol. Nice Buttery mouthfeel and taste a bit of cooked apple and light lemon, but still a strong rubber and petrol flavor/smell that I just didn’t get into. Many of us dumped some.
