Day 2 of WineBoyz Wineapalooza. Tasted blind. Dark color, murky and opaque. Exotic nose. Powerful notes of kirsch, soil, spice. Rich and extracted in the mouth. Massive power. Didn't have the herbal thing many CdPs have, but I put forth this has Grenache and Mourvedre and has to be Rhone. Nice to try, but these big powerful CdPs are not my thing.

Big dense thick amarone style wine. Sadly slightly corked. I've been nursing it for a month. Just a rich smooth wine. Really an amped up bonneau.

Unlike anything I have ever tried, would never guess CdP but it indeed was and carried itself like a 10 year old, not a 24 year old wine. Made by the #legendary Henri Bonneau, arguably the most revered CdP producer/farmer after Rayas. A deep purple red color hinted that this was going to be interesting and not an old barny wine. The nose showed more mature notes but did not so much dominate over the youthful aspects. The nose showed aromas of dried and crushed berry fruits, earth, leather, and subtle spice notes. The palate took it up a few notches in intensity with youthful vibrancy, layers upon layers of flavor, full bodied, silky and ripe tannins, and a long and lingering finish. #chateauneuf #1990 #henribonneau

Pepper and spice bomb. One glass down and you are blown out of your mind with this 16 degree alcohol monster. But you only feel it in the head, so fresh and tasty in the mouth. Powerful yet seductive at the same time. Would love to try the same wine 5-10 years younger and get blasted out of this universe. Slight bitterness from the tannins at the end. A good time to open the perfectly kept bottle and many years to come.

Never thought I would love a wine with 16% alcohol that is not fortified, but here it is! Supreme balance and a neverending finish. RIP, master Bonneau. Respect!
