May 30th, 2016Dark red color with some reddish brown undertones. Really fun bouquet of ripe cherries and raspberries. The more herbal qualities come through with some spices, tobacco, and herbs. California Zin has been more miss than hit for me, as of late. Too big, too flabby, way too high alcohol. And even though this is showing 14.5, this Heitz is basically the opposite of all of that. Light bodied, but with a full rich palate, medium acidity, and nice balance. Plums, bright red fruits, smoked tobacco, and vanilla on the palate, with a pleasing floral quality throughout

A bit more cherry I'm used to in a California Zin... unlike Paso and Lodi... this brings acid and tartness to the mix.

Very dry, oaky, pepper. Good, I like it! Upfront strawberry preserves nose.
