Leithaberg DAC Blaufränkisch
(While the pic is of this makers Chard review is for the Blaufrankish); Probably the darkest & most savory expression of Blaufrankish I’ve ever tried, & it works: black cherry & kirsch color, dense; on nose pretty open knit raspberry & black currants; the blacks currants, raspberry, & also kirsch/ beet notes on palate, with a pleasant chewy texture. For 24$ on sale a whole lotta wine, imagine the relatively long aging prerelease- over 3 years in amphorae etc -probably helped.

Mar 3rd, 2013Absolutely delicious. Peppery, mouth filling, wonderful restrained fruit and great acid on the finish.

Dec 29th, 2023Glass stopper. Fresh, but still serious. Earthy, mushroom, blackcherry, plum, pepper. Smooth and savory, with acid > tannin. Deep dark cherry and plum flavors are accented by dark chocolate shavings. A little quick to finish. Pound-able with some layers. Solid.

Mar 10th, 2023Solid Blaufränkisch but disappointing when compared to a far less expensive Hungarian version that was more flavorful. This wine is a subdued and elegant version of Blaufränkisch with a brooding plum flavor and no pepper in the finish. Definitely good but not worth the price.

Mar 8th, 2022Following a ‘16 Barolo - this just shines.
Very youthful with ripe black plum, allspice & bayleaf plus a whiff of cloves and whiff of roast. 8y if she’s and so fresh!
Juicy on the palate, fresh with energy and character. And some charm. Sweet yet savoury at the same time. Good depth, too!
Beautiful drinking right now!

Grass and earthy aroma. Enough tanning and acidity. Violet. Spicy. Mid body but enough concentration. It gives these taste to Pannobile Organic with Zweigelt. 2016 @1275, Kping, 201030
