I was on set for several rather emotionally and physically grueling action packed shooting so I deserved a little treat and by little treat mean a bottle of bubbles (and a session of smushing my face into my cat). This British bubbly is rich (riper than I’d imagine from that extra-cool climate) but also refreshing and zingy—beyond all the oxidative appley nutty notes is a punch of sweet citrus that is quite beguiling. A touch of quality white bread on the nose too. It keeps giving.

50% Pinot Noir 30% Chardonnay 19% Pinot Meunière and interestingly 1 % Pinot Gris. Extremely fine mousse. On the nose and palate Citrus and Granny Smith apple - very refreshing. Chalky soils. Many tasters would pick this as French in a blind tasting. The trouble is by the time this gets to Australia the price is similar to an average NV Champagne so to the average buyer the Champagne is the safe bet but make no mistake these are first class Sparklers.

A deliciously lively sparkler from England,
Bright and yeasty with luscious green apple and pear overtones.

notes of yellow plum & peach, apricot, vanilla, nougat and chalk ~ a burst of red fruit begins on the palate followed by fleshy plum & nectarine, orange marmalade & lemon sherbet, with a zingy dry finish

A blend of 48% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, 17% Pinot Meunier & 2% Pinot Gris. Medium lemon color with aromas of sweet stone fruits, yeast and oak notes. On the palate flavors of apricot and ripe apples with toasty creamy yeasty character. Long finish ending with mineral notes. Nice. Tasting Sample.

Founded in 2008 by Simon and Nicola Robinson, Hattingley Valley is located in Hampshire, England and their estate vineyard is set on chalky soils. The ‘Classic Reserve’ is a blend of several vintage wines (18% reserve wines) and opens with biscuit aromas with lemon zest and shades of salted Marcona almond. The palate unveils a lovely mouthfeel as brisk acidity and salinity races through pear, wet stone and kumquat flavors. Drink 2019-2025- 90

Sour yet bland. Not undrinkable but not interesting

An off-dry bubbly with a good deal of apple, maybe some stone fruit, and some mineral underpinning revealed in the finish in particular.
