Gundlach Bundschu
Vintage Reserve Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
By far the best GunBun I have ever tasted in my life of drinking a LOT of fun GunBun.

Nov 12th, 2022A blend of 77% Cab Sauv, 14% Cab Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec & 1% Merlot deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits, herb and earthy notes. On the palate blackberry and blueberry flavors with current texture, tobacco and black pepper. Full rich ripe tannins, tad grippy, long finish, good balance with acidity ending with earthy character. Nice now!

Apr 18th, 2020Caught it just at the tail end of the plateau I think. Fruit is starting to fade, but still present. Nice structure, good acid. Classic, well made, and lovely, but starting to show its age. Nice hint of Brett. Continuing to open after an hour in the glass.

Eight years in and this wine leans primary in a big way. Delicious flavor complexity with great overall balance. Fruit, tannins, and acids are all in sync. Rich body and notable depth. This wine could go five to eight years longer, maybe more. Went great with pan-seared ribeyes and spuds. (Had spinach in the pan until the cap of the garlic powder pranked me. A light sprinkle turned into spinach murder. What a mess. This tasty wine kept us all focused on what matters.)

Apr 27th, 2017There's a clovey note that permeates through all the gunbun red expressions which is amazing. This one takes it to another level with its elegance and makes for an outstanding bottle, and we'll put our next bottle down for some time yet. The setting plays a role here at the winery where we experienced both a formal tasting with pairings and an ad hoc glass at a picnic table. An amazing glass of wine and an amazing afternoon.
