Finca Meiximán Ribeira Sacra Mencía

Interesting to compare this with the Bierzo had a few days ago - both the Mencia grape. Consulting my map i note that Ribeira Sacra is next to Bierzo, both in Galicia. I found this wine slightly more delicious than the Bierzo. This wine is 80% Mencia - the other 20% being Garnacha and 5 other varietals that no one would’ve heard of before. Difficult to describe the palate - very savoury and spicy and lacking in overt fruit you might see in an Australian wine. No lesser wine because of this. I had my first one 28 weeks ago in January 2026.

I didn’t make any notes but I have always enjoyed the Mencia grape from Ribeira Sacra. 80% Mencia and 20% other Spanish varietals including Brancellao, Garnacha and 4 others. Mineral, liquorice and black fruits. I will have the last one later in 2026.

Elegant nose of sour cherries, mineral hints of iron, hay, high acid, balance and length

From magnum. This wine still has tons of energy marked by its high acidity. Loads of red fruit just starting to show some tertiary leather and earth. Rustic. Craves food. Any food.

Very Burgundian. Bright, focused, spicy and herbaceous. Slightly reductive.

Lavender, spice/cardamon, permanent marker

Deep and intoxicating nose. Ripe dark fruit and menthol. Rich texture but energetic palate. Firm medium tannins. Great character. Dark cherry, chocolate, meat, menthol, orange. New oak? Needs food!!

Very well balanced. Structured to age a few years but ready to drink now. Would pair well with a nice marbled ribeye

Brilliant Mencia from Ribeira Sacra. Immensely balanced and food friendly.

Tastes like Cote Rotie!
