Les Massardieres Gamay
Gamay from Cornas. Love this wine. Gorgeous nose of stanky and pungent Gamay fruit. Violets, dark berry, granite and just so floral. Like a flower shop. So juicy and energetic with tremendous fruit and more finesse than previous years. Terrific acidity. Has a hint of rusticity and some big tannins but they are so ripe. Love how at once this is grapey like Gamay can be but also displays the fantastic energy of the granite soils. After 5 hours of air palate is a bit creamier and nose is so much more enveloping.

Jun 20th, 2022Super deep nose. Grapey, dark berry, super mineral, very granite, floral, lovely aromas. Very lifting. Juicy and grapey palate with wild tannins and good fruit. Needs 45 minutes to get really going.

Jun 29th, 2019Wow. Can’t decide if this is plain dark or totally evil. Nose is dense blackberry and licorice flower. Almost sagrantinoey But it has a lovely sweetness. Palate is dark fruits. A bit of licorice. Mineral. Almost a hint of spicy mineral with a pleasant balancing hint of bitterness. The wine is on the sledgehammer side a bit so you have to be prepared for that. There is some brightness but it’s more In the background. As it opens some lovely licorice flower on the finish. Slightly pleasantly grippy texture. Not typical bojo gamay. But this has a place in a cellar. It’s a great example of what it is. Perhaps the only example of what it is.

Jul 10th, 2019Didn’t know Gilles made Gamay. This is very much in keeping with other Gamay-by-way-of-Rhône’s: La Souteronne and Intuition specifically. A bit spritzy and funky to start out but that gives way to ripe black fruit and a natural Cru Bojo feel. I think Souhaut remains my favorite but these would be fun to try together.
