Grant Burge
Filsell Old Vine Barossa Shiraz
After finding Australian cabs so and so, I am pivoting back to Shiraz. That’s where AUS shines, and this wine is a great example. Deep and intense flavors, structure and a long finish. Delicious.

Nov 15th, 2023An Oaky beast this one, needed plenty of air to find its balance. Big, ripe but savoury with dense black fruits and tannin that rolls through. It’s best years are ahead of it.

Jun 3rd, 2018Big improvement over 2013. Maybe old skool with plenty of oak but when I'm in the mood it hits the spot. Big, ripe dark fruits super fine tannin that builds, long finish.

Aug 9th, 2013Just a hot tip, Father’s Day is 5 weeks tomorrow 😜 And if your Dad is anything like mine, then he loves his wine. Which makes present shopping very easy 🙌
The lovely team at Dialogue PR recently sent me this lovely #freegift (thank you!) of the Grant Burge ‘Filsell’ 2018 Old Vine Shiraz from SA’s Barossa Valley. And I must admit, it would make a great prezzie for those red wine loving Dads. It retails for approximately $44.
It’s drinking great now however it will age too. From what I’ve read, they reckon it could go up to 20 years from release 😱 It picked up 94 points from Halliday. The vines in the Filsell Vineyard are 100 years Old having been planted in 1920!
In the glass it’s a gorgeous deep red purple colour. Tantalising aromas of juicy blackberries, plums, cherries and a sprinkling of spice rise up from the glass. While in the mouth it’s rather voluptuous, with bold flavours of berries, dark chocolate and coffee. It has nice meaty tannins and a rather savoury character. A serious red wine.
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Blend of dark dry red and blue fruits of cranberry, cherry and marionberry. Distinct tannins on the finish. Limited depth. Drank more like a Syrah than a hot climate Shiraz.
