Gramercy Cellars
John Lewis Walla Walla Valley Syrah
Holy hell this is brilliant Syrah. The northern Rhône by way of Washington. Masterpiece of balance and complexity

Sep 26th, 2020The 2016 ‘John Lewis Reserve’ Syrah by Gramercy Cellars is another scintillating effort from the superstar winemaking team of Brandon Moss and Greg Harrington. Entirely sourced from the Les Collins Vineyard, this wine underwent 100% whole cluster fermentation. It comes off initially quite reticent as this is needing at least a one hour decant to fully evolve,. Once aroused the wine slowly unveils exotic spices that collide with the fresh herbs, black fruits and dusty terroir that all settle in the glass. The palate evokes a wonderful feeling of elegance, as this shows off brilliant sagebrush, blood orange peel, cigar ash, pomegranate seed and shades of huckleberry that give this serious range and an exotic edge. A nice beam of salinity also runs through this wine, as the mouth-watering acidity adds to the enjoyment. If enjoying in its youth, be sure to give this stunning new wine at least a one hour decant. Drink 2020-2035- 95

1 person found it helpfulMay 27th, 2019Meaty, pepper spiciness, soy, graphite. Rich, full bodied with balance and class. Blackberries on a long and sexy finish. Still youthful as it kept getting better with time.

May 22nd, 2017I was saved a sample by @romo on day 3 after pop. Still going strong and dark as night in the glass. Chewy tannins, bruised dark fruit and after 72 hours a harmonious spicy finish.

Feb 9th, 2017Fabulous Syrah. Savory in the right volume. Balanced with great acidity. So good right now bout should age gracefully.

Aug 20th, 2016Tight but getting smoky meaty aromas. Black olives, soy sauce and black fruits. Plenty of tannins that linger for a good minute or more. Thanks Yashar!
