Gnarly Head
1924 Limited Edition Double Black Lodi Red Blend
Dinner prep with this hot (15% a.b.v.) red blend.
Dark inky color, long legs. Nice scent of black fruit, taste of ripe plums, black berrys, red grapes, tobacco and leather. Paired with garlic tomato chops, American fries and broccoli.
Medium acidity and a long finish. Oh, by the way, isolation, hunker down with a bottle of wine and netflix if you can. Stay safe.

I donโt know what Iโd do if I had to live through prohibition! Interesting little write up on the back of the bottle. This wine makes my mouth water, itโs just full of flavor. ๐๐๐ท cheers!

Jul 25th, 2018Inky black-purple glass with a translucent magenta rim. Full on nose of blackberry, blueberry, plum, vanilla, coffee, tobacco, fig and smoke. Velvety and full bodied with very good acid to the palate where dark chocolate, and black fruits predominate. Finishes smooth and long due to round soft tannins with coffee, caramel, chocolate, berries and spice notes. Great with rich dishes or as a sipper. Unbelievable value with good balance and structure for this limited edition $9.49 USD wine. 15% ABV.

Fruity nose of cherry pie, sweet strawberries, blackberries, vanilla, toast, sweet candy, mocha, chocolates and black pepper.
Full bodied with medium acidity and long long legs.
Dry and very fruity on the palate with blueberries, sweet plums, cherry jam, tobacco, earth, sweet raspberries, cloves, spices, chocolates, black pepper, alcohol, coffee and mocha.
Medium finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries.
This is a nice surprise. A simple red blend from California with a nice mouthfeel. Showing some residual sugar, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Big and bold and a little hot at the back of the throat.
Good by itself or with food and good right out of the bottle.
I paired it with cheeses and crackers.
15% alcohol by volume.
87 Points.

Extracted and dark fruit driven, but light. That's the price point I guess.

1 person found it helpfulNov 6th, 2016The name "Gnarly Heads" came from the way vines were "head pruned" prior to modern trellising techniques, giving the vines a gnarly look. Dark red with berry fruit aromas and some gnarly spice. On the palate blackberry and plum flavors, strong pepper spice with oaky notes. Firm big tannins on medium finish. Lacks finesse.
