Giant Steps
Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
Delectable - this is the Nocton Vineyard - not available in your database. From the Coal River valley in Tasmania. Lovely aromatics of black cherry and spice. Giant Steps is based in the Yarra Valley and is owned these days by the Jackson Family from the USA. Gorgeous fruit from the terroir of the Coal River, a renowned district for Pinot Noir. An incredible show record of 3 Trophies from the 2019 Royal Queensland Wine Show. Best Pinot Noir, Best Red Table Wine and Champion Wine of the Show. At this year’s RQ Wine Show Giant Steps repeated the Trophy feat with their 2022 Sexton Vineyard (Yarra Valley) Pinot Noir winning the same Trophies. The same award winning wine making team except for Steve Flamsteed who is now a consultant to the Jackson team. Amazing power on the palate of the Nocton - Asian spices, somewhat voluptuous finishing with silky tannins.

Aug 1st, 2023Blend of fruit (60/40) from upper/lower Yarra Valley, Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits with spice, oak and floral notes. On the palate flavors of black cherry and raspberry with floral, oak, tea and herb notes. Soft fine tannins, good balance on long finish ending with notes of herb, earth, fruit and spice. Nice, will age well!

Jan 12th, 2023Pale Ruby in colour. Strawberry and Raspberry aromatics. The palate is very red fruit driven with strawberry and raspberry - quite delicious. I may be wrong but little evidence of whole bunch in the ferment. Oak is hardly detectable. Great value at $35AUD and should be an annual buy on top of the Individual Paddock Pinot Noirs which I buy regularly. Having a 2015 Applejack Pinot tonight.

Sep 22nd, 2021What a wonderful wine- undeniably Pinot from its pale ruby color to the briars, dark cherry, raspberry and earthy nose to the low tannins and penetrating acidity. Violet, earth, graphite, and dried orange peel on the palate. Long finish, a lovely wine.

Sep 8th, 2017Outstanding in every way.
The dominant imperative here is the quality of the presentation. Expectations and delivery are completely aligned in this case. The magnitude in the price to quality ratio is exponential. Cola and cranberry on the nose leads into moderate, polished tannins, and sweet baking spices on the mid palate. Finishes with a hint of sweet fruits. Pinot lovers should look out for this.

Deep Crimson with reddish purple rim. Lovely complex perfume of Black Cherries Earth Stalks Twigs and Light Pepper from partial or full whole bunch ferment I suspect. Palate of cherries with earthy notes of Medium Intensity. This is their less expensive General Cuvée in contrast to their individual Vineyard Cuvees like Sexton Applejack Tarraford etc. From the much lauded 2015 vintage in the Yarra. 2015 seems to be one of those great world wide vintages like 1990. Great in most parts of Australia and New Zealand. Also in Bordeaux Burgundy and France generally it appears. Mediterranean countries. Not sure about North or South America?

Apr 20th, 2017Cracking wine this- alpine strawberries, red cherry, white pepper, brown spice, orange zest, slight florals and a herbal/cactus thing that provides plenty of interest. Light to medium bodied in the palate and rather savoury in its delivery. Superb drinking
