College football, Szechuan cumin lamb, and this balanced old vine blend of Zin, Syrah, Charbono, and Petite Sirah . . . nice combo! This wine is fully mature, wonderful nose of musky, gravelly earth, dark blackberry/cassis fruit, and a nice smoky note. In the mouth, there is terrific balance. The acids are there, balancing the rich, meaty, smoky flavors. Nice wine!

Sep 2nd, 2018Lots of rich black cherry and blackberry fruit with an overlay of oaky vanillin. Rich and earthy, with nice balance.

Nov 24th, 2017This blend of old vine Zin and Syrah, with some Charbono and Petite Sirah, is one deeply flavored wine. Deep and dark ripe berries, and whisps of smoky gravel and iron on the nose. Intense dark, sweet, and minerally flavors that linger and linger. Lots of mouthcoating tannin, but it's relatively soft. Full bodied. Only detracting note is some barely perceptible residual sugar.
Night 2: More graphite and smoky minerality in the nose and mouth. Powerful and long. I like it better. The Zin character was dominant on night 1; the Syrah on night 2.
