Today I had the pleasure of having the 2013 Gaja Brunello di Montalcino Pieve Santa Restituta Sugarille.

On the nose there was cherry, raspberry, plum, anise, balsamic, herbs, dried roses, leather and crushed brick.

On the palate were notes of cherry, black raspberry, plum, licorice, balsamic, leather and a hint of oak.

A well made wine that is full bodied with medium + acidity and high mouth coating sandy tannins that moves wonderfully into a long red fruit brick dust finish. A beautifully structured wine that is well balanced. Have a wonderful weekend stay healthy and safe and be kind to one another. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Single Vineyard small production. Classic style so age worthy. Strong, structured, beautiful mouthfeel and inspiring perfume. This is why we love Brunello.

Over 150 years ago Giovanni Gaja opened a small restaurant in Barbaresco, making wine to complement the food he served. In 1859, he founded the Gaja Winery. I was lucky enough to get a taste! Deep Ruby with rich complex aromas of fruit, floral and earth. On the palate cherry and ripe blackberry flavors with cedar and toasty cacao. Well balanced on firm tannins just about approachable, lingering ending with a rich earthy character. Nice. Tasting Sample.

Fathers Day is upon us and I wish all Fathers a wonderful weekend. Today I had opened the 2013 Gaja Sugarille Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello de Montalcino 100% Sangiovese.

The aromas are very prominent with notes of cherry, plum, blueberry, thyme, herbs, dried Rose's, broken brick chips, graphite and dried soil.

On the palate there is cherry, plum, red raspberry, spice, balsamic, thyme, leather and a nice earthy component.

This wine is a beautiful expression of a Tuscan Sangiovese medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and medium + firm, grippy, fine tannins that lead to a long spicy elegant finish. You fathers out there enjoy your weekend and keep safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

It shouldn’t surprise that the house making among the most age-worthy Italian wines is making Brunello not to touch for 15+ years. Secondary aromatics with rose and red flowers, cinnamon? Burgundian layers on a light and compelling frame with a core of sour cherry and strawberry. Perfectly integrated, lonnnnng as day. Yum.

Really well balanced for a 2000 vintage. Surprised how well this has held up. Tried right after opening and 2 hours later and it was still evolving. Tannins pretty much gone and fruit present immediately. Finished strong will some surprising floral notes

This afternoon enjoyed a holiday luncheon with a client and shared this bottle 2011 Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Sugarille BdM.

A bit shy on the nose. It takes awhile to bring out the full aroma of this beauty. Once open the aromas of black cherry, raspberry, licorice, spices, cedar, menthol, floral and earthy notes come out.

This dark voluptuous wine has lots of depth and structure that pleases the palate. Black cherries, raspberry, red plum, pepper, sweet tobacco, some leather, menthol, spices, flint, smokey oak and beautiful rich earth.

This has a full rich mouth feel with Medium + acidity- High chewy tannins that leads to a rich long sustained finish.

A wonderful holiday lunch enjoyed by all and this wine did not disappoint. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷🖒

I'm not a big sangiovese guy, but this wine is something special. I am glad I got to know thee.

The nose is filled with dried cherries, fig, dried roses potpourri like, a very elegant aroma.

This is a fruit forward sangiovese with nice cherry, a bit of strawberry, red plum, leather, and some minerality.

This wine is well balanced with medium + tannins, medium + acidity with a full bodied mouth feel. A very enjoyable bottle of wine. I am going to have to relook at these wines.

A bit overripe. Shows lots of fig, raisin and other dried black fruit. Not the tart red fruits I normally expect from Brunello.
