Vibrant dark fruit with licorice and a dollop of flowers and tar, intense but balanced with plenty of fine tannin for support. Excellent in a totally different style from the 1997 Giacosa Santo Stefano tasted with it and more lively and nuanced than the 2000 Costa Russi.

1999 vintage. Costa Russi. With Angelo Gaja. Medium ruby hue. Quite closed and youthful. Red fruit character. Slight earthiness and leather. Medicinal notes, green pepper and cedar wood. On the palate, cherries to the fore - high acidity, medium plus tannins - ripe, medium alcohol and decent length. Very young. Drink from 2022-2045. NB. Definite improvement after 2hrs in the glass.
