Not quite what the '97 Gaja Langhe (wine of the Summer) was that I brought to Greg's in July, but as spot on as a Barbaresco can get. Last of the Gaja 97s :-/

Patience. I need more patience. Opened and knew I should wait but one little sip here another there. And half the bottle was gone too early. Needed 3.5+ hours to open. Mature cherry mixed with tea leaves and dark fruit. Color was still dark red. Aromatic and musclebound.

Garnet body. Dried leaves, sage and dark fruit and leather nose. Soft and balanced body with hints of black pepper on the palate. Very long finish.

Has not moved at all. Still full color, smooth but no bite.

Unbelievable, 1997. Round, Nebbiolo at its very best

Tasted the 1978 Costa Russi next to the 1997. The 1997 could easily use a couple more decades - even with a longer decant, this didn't quite open up as much as I'd like. But very obviously an amazing wine. Actually doesn't give a ton on the nose, but this is deep and complex on the palate - and once again with great acidity and freshness. The tannins here are quite a bit more present, but still excellent.

My last bottle, it was a glorious case. Wine still vibrant, color faded, very orange at the edges. Only tertiary tastes, outstanding
