Frog's Leap
Napa Valley Zinfandel
2013 vintage. Dry-farmed Zinfandel co-fermented with Carignan, Petite Sirah and Valdigue. A more restrained style of Zin. Nose is not very attractive (animal-like), but the taste is much better with juicy cherries, bright acidity and lots of elegance for a Zin. Should age well. Would give a higher score if the nose was more appealing.

Jul 20th, 2017This wine was a revelation (at least for me). Great depth of dark fruit, earthy, tobacco flavors with nice body. Lovely aroma. Was wonderful with Caesar salad and filet mignon.

A very typical California Zinfandel nose of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, licorice, figs, raisins, oak, vanilla, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, smoke and cloves.
Full bodied, ripe and jammy, with medium acidity and long legs.
Fruity on the palate with blackberries, dried plums, cherries, currants, oak, vanilla, raspberries, earth, pencil lead, leather, vegetable notes, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices and peppercorn.
Medium plus in finish with soft tannins and black pepper.
A Nice Zinfandel from Napa Valley, California. Complex, but not fully balanced yet. Still young and a little bitter on the ending, which will go away in a couple of years. Enjoyable by itself or with food. I paired it with BBQ Meats.
Needs an hour to open up properly. I had this vintage last year, and it wasn't ready for drinking, in my opinion. I'm glad to see that now, it is getting closer to its potential.
13.8% alcohol by volume.

More like a cab than a Zin by regular standards of viscosity. Low in alcohol too, by comparison. It's growing on me in a good way. I usually don't love zins, but I could pretend this isn't one and then say I like it a lot.

Feb 25th, 2016Black fruits and earthy, almost meaty and chewy. Still a bit tight and would have opened up well in a few more years.

Feb 2nd, 2016Dark ruby in color with a red rim.
Woody nose with blackberries, figs, green pepper, plums, barnyard, oak, cloves black pepper.
Medium plus in body with high acidity.
Fruity and dry on the palate with plums, blueberries, sour cherries, cranberries, oak, bitter herbs and peppercorn.
Medium finish with soft tannins and bitter almonds.
This Napa Zinfandel is still young and unbalanced. The nose wasn't appetizing at all, and the palate was simple and tart. Definitely not worth the $30 price tag.
