Freemark Abbey
Napa Valley Chardonnay

Pale lemon color with aromas of stone and citrus fruits with toasty aromas, aged in about 35% new oak. On the palate flavors of melon and peach with lemon citrus zest and nutty vanilla notes, good balanced with acidity. Medium+ finish ending with fruit, oak and mineral character.

I haven’t had a Napa Chardonnay in quite a while. This is very nice. Very fragrant, with ripe orchard fruit, a nice florals, very light touch of barrel aging toast, and an interesting wet clay minerality. Denser in the mouth than the nose led me to expect. Low-toned cracked dark stones, with the fruit taking a back seat. Quite full bodied, but there is nice, subtle acidity to lift it just enough. Seem to me the closest French analogy is a well-made Pouilly-Fuisse. Got this for under $25 at Costco.

how many wine -os like you day dream of their death bottle? the bottle they go out with? all of you do. everyone dreams big , of course... but it’ll just be something bottled that’s always been there bottled just for you. with your last blink ... you’ll say ‘ damn, i can’t believe it s THIS bottle i’m going out on” but it WILL be that bottle . always will be and will always have been before you starting even dreaming about going out with a bottle at your side. funny how things seem to always be. here’s to wishing it was something other.

Began in 1886, when Josephine Marlin Tychson became the first woman to operate a winery in CA and this site where Josephine's winery once stood is now known as Freemark Abbey. Aromas of crisp ripe fruit with scents of oak, spice and floral. On the palate apple, peach and honey flavors with lemon notes, vanilla and sweet oak wrapped in tangy acidity. Lingering finish ending with a toasty character. Nice value.
