Frankland Estate
Isolation Ridge Vineyard Riesling
Another comparative tasting - had the 2014 of this cuvée 2 days ago. This one with a little more age was showing a little kerosene unlike the 2014 which showed more talc on the nose. Lovely mature dry Riesling flavours of dusty nectarine, quince and mineral. More fulsome in the mouth and less acid than the 2014. A wonderful mature Riesling from the Frankland River District in Western Australia.

Feb 25th, 2020Pale Lemon in colour. Aromas of Talc and citrus with a little herb. The palate has filled out somewhat from its austere acidic youth, in fact the acid has softened but still enough there if you wanted to keep cellaring for a few years. A quality Riesling from an excellent district for Riesling in Frankland River WA. Pristine clean flavours - purity is the key. Tasted another bottle 131 weeks later on 4th September 2022. Tasting quite lean after the Fat Bastard Chardonnay Ted brought last Sunday. This is a great Riesling with a big future. No kerosene aromas. Aromas of talc and limes. Still M plus acidity. Had another on 6th June 2023. Starting to develop some paraffin notes on the nose. Still mainly talc and lime. Have 2 bottles left - next in a year’s time.

Feb 23rd, 2020Pale yellow. Flinty, firm, 'mineral' citrus oil, petrol. Bracing acid, slightly bitter/phenolic, feels very fresh for a 6 year old wine.
Paired w Singapore spiced Mahi Mahi.
If you don't know these dry Riesling wines from Australia 🇦🇺 now is a good time to buy and support them through their crazy wildfire season. #ozwine #riesling #dryasthedesert

Mid Lemon in colour. Developing and putting on weight from 4 years ago and not as austere. Paraffin aromas on the way but not quite there yet - a touch of lanolin. Could cellar for at least another 5 years if desired. Fresh and clean from Frankland River and the Great Southland of Western Australia. Barb and I are heading that way over Christmas and New Year for our first visit taking in the towns of Albany and Denmark. Known for great Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet.

Dec 5th, 2019Traces of Kerosene/Paraffin on the nose. Very pure flavours of lime:citrus with pronounced acidity. Quite austere on the palate lacking in mid palate fruit. A little disappointing to be honest for the reputation of the producer and the vineyard. Perhaps picked a little early? Growing season too cool? It will age more with all that acid giving more Kerosene Notes but no fruit to accompany it.

Feb 10th, 2019Pale to mid Lemon. Aromas of Citrus Blossom and Sherbet. Drier than some of the other Frankland River Rieslings I have had which were more Germanic in style. At 5 years still in its youth with another 7+ years ahead.

Dec 30th, 2017Pale Lemon in colour. Aromas of Talc and Musk along with the Citrus blossom. The shrill acidity of 6 years ago now much subdued. A classic aged Great Southern Riesling - 11.5% ABV. Several more years left in it up to its 10th Birthday. No Kerosene.

This could be 1 year old it is so primary but actually 5. A little bitter on the finish. From the Isolation Ridge Vineyard- their best cuvée with a long future stretching in front of it. Next in 2 to 3 years.
