Fontanafredda
Lazzarito Barolo Nebbiolo
Cork crumbled upon opening. Consumed over several hours. This is clearly browning and showing its age but certainly not dead...though very advanced. On the nose it’s dominated by secondary characteristics of truffles, stewed strawberries (like homemade preserves), forest floor and cured meats. On the palate it’s figs and charred meat. The finish is short. Based on this bottle, these are barely holding together. I wouldn’t be at all surprised that other bottles are aging a little more gracefully but I wouldn’t trust to hope. If you have any of these laying around, drink them while they still have some redeeming qualities as they are surely in the twilight of their life.

Mar 14th, 2018Showing better than the last bottle I opened of this. Developed red fruit with dried undergrowth. Rust and spice. A tannic nudge. A welcome acidic backbone. Assured.

Jul 22nd, 2016Drinking great. Still has grip but time has tamed the tannins. Leather, anise, mushrooms, and some high toned floral notes. Solid Barolo from a classic vintage.

Jan 18th, 2015Not much experience with the '71 vintage but I've had barolos 5-10 years older that have held up better. Fruit is waning, bricking prevalent. Fun to drink but this is fading fast.,

Nov 27th, 2014Tar, Tea, subtle licorice, dried herbs and fall foliage, overripe red fruit, soft tannic structure, surprising and lively acidic vein. Not fatigued, however drinking mature. Limited complexity on shortened finish, but still balanced and enjoyable.

Mar 3rd, 2014I took a long break from delectable due to the inappropriate spam I was getting but I decided to come back for now. Hopefully they fixed the problem. This wine is a real surprise. Only rated as 87 points so I let it sit for a while. I opened this beauty to my great surprise. Delicate yet firm acidity with lots of floral and cedar notes on the nose and a delightful 45 second finish. Delish
