The 2019 Etna Rosso Allegracore opens with a dusting of confectioners’ sugar, yet it then morphs into a wild blend of savory herbs, sour cherries, tangerine and crushed ashen stone. It’s soft-textured, verging on fleshy in feel, yet pure in character, casting mineral-tinged red berries over a core of brisk acidity. This finishes long and lightly structured, while leaving a black tea-like staining upon the senses, all under an air of rosy florals. This varietal Nerello Mascalese is simply stunning today, yet it should also excel through short-term cellaring. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)

Pale ruby. Flinty smoky red cherry and herbs on the enticing nose. Then clean fresh and easygoing, with a stony quality to the ripe but vibrant red cherry and redcurrant flavors. Finishes long and herbal with hints of flint. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, August 2019)

Wonderful Etna Rosso. Plenty of red fruit, high minerality, very fine bones and tannins. Improves wonderfully in the glass. A great nerrelo mascalese (90 pct)

So good. Very pretty... violets and red flowers on the nose broaden to, cherries, redcurrants, some lava minerality on the palate. A bit hot on the nose (14% abv and quite light bodied) but still a delightful and pure etna rosso.

Red cherry, ripe raspberry, coriander seed, antica formula vermouth, hint of balsam & leather. Vibrant acidity, medium plus black tea like tannin but supple. Length is solid.

Generically fruity on the nose this one had a great tannin structure. Strict but pleasant and lots of red fruit. Got me thinking of nice nothern Italian wine.

Etna Rosso is quickly becoming my new obsession. Tart cranberry and cherry is balanced by dried savory herbs, compost, and puckering acidity.

Straying from Rhone to Etna Rosso - if I made Italian varieties would want it to be like this! Bright cherry note, mouth watering acid and a mix of minerality and soft tannins. Perfect pairing wine
