Takes its name from the free-spirited gentleman named Bruscone who lived in the woods of the Barbi Estate. Enticing Ruby with sweet red berry aromas and earthy notes. On the palate cherry, licorice and sweet plum showing nicely. Fine tannins, well balanced on lingering finish ending with earthy herb tones. Needs decanting or cellar aging. Very nice!

Bright garnet, orange rim variation. Dark cherries, prunes, baking spices, vanilla, leather. Nice soft acidity, red cherries, dried herbs, a little sanguine at first. Mellowed out in the glass.

Dec 30th, 2019Powerful, deep Brunello. Brooding with prune and plum and some licorice. Meant to be consumed with steak. The wine itself tastes like blood, so steak just adds to it.

May 19th, 2019D8. Tasted off the menu at Tutto Gusto. This is a red fruited monster. Lots of red cherry, raspberry, hint of black cherry. You know where this one is going in the next 10 years. Has a lot of herb and cola influence in the middle. Finishes with some stiff tannin, which tells you that this one is not going anywhere for awhile. Lots of very good stiff oak influence. Nice.

Really tight at pop and pour—had nice potential but could tell it was “closed”. Then decanted. Started to open up after 15 minutes but was singing “delicious” at 45 minutes. Also, as with all good Italian red, was better w food. Really popped with lightly spicy tomato sauce. Definitely tart cherries, some bright red raspberries, white pepper, and some lightly cedar-y tannin. Really nice. Wish I had had the time to really let it open before starting to drink it, but it was great nonetheless.

Session 3 of Wine Essentials One at the Institute of Culinary Education Center for Wine Studies.
This big boy Brunello comes from more mature, riper grapes and has been aged longer. This is evident in its brick red color. This is also quite a complex wine on the nose, with a bouquet of chocolate, tomato, darker fruits and vegetables. It is smoky and earthy on the nose, with an odor of decomposing leaves. On the palate are intense flavors of dark and ripe fruits, especially blackberry. This still has some life to it. Just magnificent. Pair this brawny wine with a hearty ragù Bolognese or a juicy Bistecca alla Fiorentina!
